Tiptree, Essex
Tiptree is a large village and civil parish in the City of Colchester district of Essex, around 10 miles south-west of Colchester. It's known nationally as the home of Wilkin & Sons, whose jam factory and visitor centre still anchor the village more than a century after it started trading. Away from the factory, the high street and surrounding roads hold one of the busiest concentrations of independent businesses in the area, from estate agents like Hardy King and David Martin Group to long-standing pubs such as The Ship Inn and The New Times, alongside opticians, hairdressers, a veterinary practice and a run of family-run takeaways, cafes and bakeries.

About Tiptree
- Known to the Anglo-Saxons as "Typpetre" ("Tippa's tree"), from which the modern name derives.
- Wilkin & Sons has made jam in the village since 1885, growing from Arthur Charles Wilkin's Britannia Fruit Preserving Company into a business that has held a Royal Warrant since 1911 and is still known for its "Little Scarlet" strawberry.
- The village's population grew roughly tenfold across the 20th century, from around 1,000 residents in 1900 to over 9,600 at the 2021 Census, making it one of the largest villages in Essex.
