Silver End, Essex
Silver End is a planned village and civil parish in the Braintree district of Essex, between Witham and Braintree. It was built from 1926 by industrialist Francis Henry Crittall to house workers at his Crittall Windows factory, replacing what had been little more than a hamlet around the Western Arms pub. The village's shops and services today include the Western Arms itself, a handful of takeaways, a garage, a tea room and a GP surgery.

About Silver End
- Until the 1920s, Silver End was a small hamlet in the parish of Rivenhall, little more than a handful of houses along Western Lane and the Western Arms pub.
- It was built from 1926 as a model village by industrialist Francis Henry Crittall, whose Crittall Windows factory needed housing for workers that nearby Braintree could no longer supply.
- Manager housing was designed by Scottish modernist architect Thomas Tait, and the village hall built for the community was, at the time, the largest in Britain.
