Earls Colne, Essex
Earls Colne is a village and civil parish in the Braintree district of Essex, on the River Colne from which it takes half its name (the other half from the Earls of Oxford, who held the manor here for over 600 years). Much of the parish was requisitioned during the Second World War for Earls Colne Airfield, a bomber station that later hosted the US Eighth Air Force. Today the village's businesses are centred on its pubs, Drapers, The Lion and The Drum Inn, alongside a well-regarded Indian restaurant.

About Earls Colne
- The village takes its name from the River Colne and the Earls of Oxford, who held the manor here from before 1086 until 1703.
- Its population fluctuated between 500 and 1,000 for centuries before falling to 1,655 in 1931, then rising sharply after the Second World War as Londoners moved into the area.
- Earls Colne Airfield, built in 1941 and later home to the US Eighth Air Force's 323rd Bomb Group, occupied land requisitioned from the neighbouring Marks Hall estate.
